Football is the one thing that brings all the people of Odessa together, and on Friday night’ s every fall, as many as 20,000 people fill Permian’s football stadium to watch Coach’s boys try to lead the team to victory. The Permian Panthers have a big winning tradition in Texas high school football, led by QB Mike Winchell and superstar tailback Boobie Miles, but everything is not well, as Boobie suffers a career-ending injury in the first game of the season. Hope is lost among the citizens of Odessa, and for the team too but coach works to build a winning team in a town where victory is prized above all else, however, his players struggle through the emotional trials that are common to any teenager and reflect the fact that there is little future in their hometown and that a championship season can be as much a burden as a triumph. The show depicts the daily struggles endured by a coach of a high school team .The stakes are high, the reward is sweet, and the pressure is immense.
